Fall River ride 2-5-17
« on: February 05, 2017, 07:38:15 PM »
I had a good time today, weather was nice, not hot enough for me, but felt good. Started out going past Fall River lake then north and around a few different roads. Found some good roads that I hope will work for my ride that I have been given to lead at with on our Ural rally at the beginning on June. I have to say it is not as scenic as the flint Hills by Casoday, but I did find roads that are hilly and with lots of cows around ! I didn't find anything really cool to see, but there is a lot more weekends coming up that I can explore. Ran out of gas on the north end of the lake, good thing the Ural comes with an extra 2.7 gal. After that I decided to head home and get more gas. I didn't get to finish the route I made in Delorme, but will next time. I use the online Delorme, I like it, easy to use, upload to my phone and then turn on tracks to see what I find in the real world. On the way home just past Beaumont was a car on the side of the road with a mom and her two kids with her, I pulled over to ask her if she needed gas, and she did. After filling her car, I noticed she also had a flat tire, good thing I had my air compressor. All good, and off she went. Back on the bike and home I went, felt good to have helped her. Feel tired as I'm out of shape to have rode 240 miles today on a Ural, not the easiest bike to ride on road.
Hope to post more ride as the weather warms up.
Marc

Great ride report! Thanks for sharing the ride and the pictures, we like pictures around here LOL.... Most excellent you had the opportunity to elevate the motorcyclists image by helping a family in need at the side of the road! You have just banked some serious karma my friend!!!

Not a problem, Derek, there will be other rides. I try to ride everyday the weather is nice.
I have to go back there again as I didn't get to finish the route I had planned.

Pretty cool info, I'll have to look at my route to mark its location. Might look for the fort too.

Interesting read but it doesn't say wether the fort is still there or not? Anyone know of it's current condition?

Wow, this thread opened up all kinds of stuff for me to research.
First off, that was a long ride from Wichita!  You were over in Nick Bright's area.  Maybe he could join you next time you are over that way.
Second, the name Opothleyahola stirred some memories.  There is a hiking trail by that name north of Muskogee, OK (I was born & raised in that area).  I've never been on it but I was intrigued by it.  As it turns, out Opothleyahola and the Creeks were settled around that area until battles with Confederat forced drove them on foot up to Fort Row.  The journey is called the Trail of Tears on ice.
I have hours of reading in front of me!

History & dual sports go hand in hand.  I love how we can ride to historical places that cars rarely see.

Some of my favorite rides have been runs out to seemingly the middle of nowhere, shutting the bike offm and just listening to the quietness. No cars, nothing.. so peaceful.
