Utah BDR - 2022

I’m all for it, as Mike said if we get there early.  Just posted it for the others that haven’t been added to the group and want to go.

I can say from just coming back from riding in Moab, its a lot harder than you are going to except, there are some sections of uber deep sand. the stuff we all love, like powered sand, very fine stuff.

Did you go up in Lockhart? That's really the only section I'd be concerned about. Jeff will go around that for sure, as he'll be on a dyna dirt bike and it won't have the clearance for Lockhart.

Just a word of caution, I have done the majority of the Utah BDR and can tell you that it is just plain hard. Do not attempt it unless you have a very capable dual sport, adventure bikes are a no go. You will face long days of brutal sand and loose rocky sections. The trail WILL take a toll on your body so make sure that you prepare for it and don't just show up and expect to cruise through it. Be sure to have full knobby tires mounted, you will regret trying it with anything less. That being said you will see some incredible sites that you will never forget.

Thanks for the "heads up" on the UTBDR. I'm setting up my 690 for the adventure. Have you did the Lockhart Basin area? I know it will be an awesome ride, but I don't need to break me or the bike for the sake of one section!

Yes we did Lockhart there are some steep uphill/downhill sections that you are just crawling thru. I was on my Husky 610 and didn't have a lot of trouble, the guy on the Triumph Scrambler not so much.

Yes we did a part of it, came up to very deep powdery sand, at that point we turned around.

R we still doing this ? I need to make plans for vacation at work as soon as I can.

As far as I know we are still a go. Nick and I are still planning to go. I thing Nick's brother Jeff is in and I have a rider here in Chanute that is planning to go. His name is also Nick.

What are the dates, do we have a trailer yet? I'd like to go if the dates work with my work. I also have another that would like to do, from Oklahoma riding a DR400.

I looked back in my text. Nick said he put in his PTO request for September 2nd through 18th. If memory serves me right we want to be ready to begin the ride in Mexican Hat on Tuesday morning the 6th. That will give us 10 days to ride the BDR. Get back to the trucks and get home by the 18th. At this time I can haul a bike in the back of my truck, plus three on trailer. That's four bikes for 4 people in my truck. I can pull a bigger trailer if someone finds it. But we will need an additional car or truck to transport the other people and gear.
The Oklahoma guy on the DRZ sounds okay to me.
I'm planning to drive to Price, UT., unload everything and then ride south to Mexican Hat. It will be about the same distance to ride back to Price from the north border when we finish the ride. Those two travel days will be just about all pavement. Price is also really close to the route. So, midway through our ride we could stop at the truck to replenish supplies if needed.

If you can't do the whole trip, a person might think about running the first half or the second half. The travel to and from Utah would be up to the individual. Just a thought.

Myself and a friend are interested in joining the UTBDR group.  We have rode the WABDR and I have rode the COBDR.  By September we will have rode the IDBDR, God willing.

For me, this worked out to 80 hours of vacation (10 days), but your schedule may be entirely different to where it works out to more days.
