It would be more a trip for me as well, although, my Dad was stationed in Ft. Riley and we lived in Clay Center while I was in grade school. Have also seen some great looking video from some members of the area around Manhattan. I would love to get up there.

I think this is where groups need to be considered. Advanced-intermediate- cruisers

Somewhere on the old board this is mentioned ....too lazy to look for where...

I think the adv | int | beginner stuff was mostly in reference to average cruising speed,  with some consideration given to staying clear of the few more challenging spots out there.

I led the adv group last year, and really only about 10 miles of the 150 or so we covered, we something I'd consider advanced. We mostly just roosted along on stuff you could take a jeep through.

Yep! That's basically what I was referring to.

The critical part is setting a date .... then the location. Believe me, have been through the process a few times!

IMHO .... Roger

As Roger points out, if we're going to organize something, we need to seriously think about when, not just where.

My work keeps me far too busy to be a primary organizer, but I will help as much as possible.

Personally, I'm open in May, won't be available any weekend in June (Missouri Roads & Trails dual sport rally on the 2nd-4th!), July is open so far except the holiday weekend, August is open so far, and September is open except the weekend of the 9th and 23rd.

September time frame worked out well last year.  Not to hot during the day and not so cold at night.

If Milford area is selected, great as I live here and could add support mechanically and logistically but any area is fine as long there is decent gravel / unimproved areas

Weather seems like it turns somewhere around Columbus day.

Mid-Sept is a great time but I will be in Crested Butte Colorado at the KTM rally around then but I certainly up for something almost any other.

As long as it's not the same weekend as the CMA Fastlane rally, Sept 8th-10th; I'm already committed to that, and my company is donating to the event as well; so I'm double committed.

Good morning,

The Stampede is a hoot. I've enjoyed several of them. As the group decides what weekend to hold a Stampede please keep in mind that there IS already scheduled a stampede type event on September 8th through 10th. It is located out of Burlington, KS. There is camping options at the Rally site, there are RV hookups as well. In addition there are two nice motels in town.

I'm one of the organizers for the event and would like to extend my personal invitation to all the Back Roads Touring members and friends to come enjoy the event. You can find additional information here on this board at: http://www.backroads.bike/board/index.php/topic,55.0.html

Personally, I'd love to see the Stampede planned on another weekend at a different location - perhaps farther north and west and later in September - so there will be at least two different chances for someone to participate in this type of an event. For those that can do both events - the different locations and dates will provide multiple riding opportunities.

Thanks -

How about September 9&10, the weekend following the Labor Day weekend? We had near-perfect weather the day of the Saturday big ride. Maybe history will repeat itself?

I'm for Council Grove again ... it's a rider's/photographer's mecca, IMHO

Just a reminder as we discuss the Stampede. These is a stampede styled event already on the calendar for the weekend of September 8, 9 and 10. That's the weekend after Labor Day.

Funny I was just wondering today if a date and location had been set.  How about either Sept 2nd or 16th out of CG?  Last year's setup was great!

My vote would be for the weekend of the September 16th in Council Grove.I like the Council Grove area as well. The 2nd is part of the Labor Day weekend. A lot of people will probably do stuff with family that weekend.

Thanks

Sounds and looks like fun!! Long ass ride from my neck of the woods however to Council Grove, 160 miles. Eureka is around 90 miles from Fort Scott and has much better accommodations.

Had overlooked the CMA rally dates .... sorry about that.

The weekend of 9/2 is Labor Day weekend. Lots of camping spots will be taken up at every park, plus there will be a higher percentage of impaired drivers on the road.

Sept. 16 also works for me, if that is the consensus of the group. As far as location ... Council Grove, Cottonwood Falls (or Camp Wood YMCA near Elmdale), or Eureka are all fine choices.
