Tires worn? Need to change em?
« on: January 31, 2017, 05:50:31 PM »
A few years ago, I bought one of these cheap bead breakers , and its been really pretty amazing. I've changed everything from street bike slicks to off-road knobbies with this thing. Initial setup is a bit of a pain, you have to assemble the stand.. doesn't come put together... but once its built, its super tough and very handy. Its well worth the $.

Factor that in with a good set of spoons..   NOT LEVERS! Spoons will have a nice rounded tip..  Levers will have a point, which is really handy for pinching tubes.

These look to be a pretty good value.. might go on and order some.

Here's a video that goes over, in pretty decent detail, the steps needed. Just overlook the stupid intro and you'll be fine :)

He must like it pretty well because even though he's got a buddy with a Coats tire changing machine he continues to use it! Lol

And while we're on the subject, I have a couple of those harbor freight tire changing machine's new in the box sitting in my garage I should probably sell!

I know I know.. i'm just impatient and I wanted to get them on!  haha!  :)  I hate asking people for help when I can fully well do whatever it is myself, ya know?

Funny thing is, I'm usually the first to offer to help someone else out.. figure that one out.

Do you guys go to the trouble of patching pinched tubes once you get back home?  In the field, i never bother with patching, unless i literally dont have any other option.

I know, I just like giving you a hard time!

I know that to be the truth! First time I met you you pretty much did an entire rear wheel removal, tube replacement and reinstall for another rider by yourself without even being asked really!!  Your good people Derek!

Personally I dont, I carry new tubes for both wheels and toss the pinched tube when I get home and purchase another new one for my tool bag! Some may think wasteful but I don't like to be the guy everyone is waiting on to repatch an old tube while out riding with a group... UNLESS.... I've donated my new tube to another bike earlier in the ride LOL, then you have no choice....
