2019 Flint Hills Stampede
« on: June 05, 2019, 06:21:05 PM »
WHEN: September 14th (Pickup rides on Friday!)
WHERE: Canning Creek Cove Group Site S3 - Council Grove, KS
WHAT: Flint Hills Stampede Ride!
Primary Organizer: Pixurethis
Helping Hands: Nick Bright

RIDE HQ: Canning Creek Cove Group Site S3 UPDATED - We have upgraded to site S3!
Please respect State Park rules and keep all vehicles off the grass. The park needs to be preserved for all visitors, in addition to being illegal. There's plenty of room for bikes in the parking area.

GROUP CAMPING: Available Friday and Saturday night at Group Site S3. There are 8 16 back-in RV slots, 8 are claimed already! If you would like an RV spot (truck & trailer or actual RV) please post in this thread so that we can let people know when it's full.

The site is right next to a restroom and shower; in addition to having a covered pavilion, electricity, and water. Tons of room for tents.

The campsite has a total cost of $160 $280. It is not required, but if you're camping and could contribute to covering the cost of the campsite, it would help out Marc & Nick in covering the expense.
Group Site Update: RV Spots - 8 of 16 claimed. UPDATE: WAY more 4-wheel parking on S3! Plenty of room now!

RV Spots are all spoken for. I just checked and the park is almost completely booked up. The only sites showing available on recreation.gov are Site 27 and Site 28, other than walk-in only sites 01-07 & 22-26.

If you haven't posted in the thread about truck/trailer, etc please do not plan on having parking available. If you would like to come, need truck parking, and have not posted yet, please post. If there are enough additional RV and Trucks, we can try to push through an upgrade on the site. Site Upgraded to S3!

There is still a good amount LOT of room for bikes and tents!

Saturday Breakfast:Breakfast burritos will be provided Saturday morning by CMA. Thank you CMA!
Please vote in the poll on this thread to mark your attendance, and if you're bringing more people let us know so that the CMA volunteers can bring the right amount of food to feed everybody, and avoid waste!

Any way that you'd like to help, I'm sure would be welcome. "Many hands make light work" as they say!

Also, :envious: Moab! I hear it's really really fun and beautiful. I hope to go there some day.

Any more data on the routes, particularly the "Fast & Hard" route. Any single or two track or mainly gravel? Is the ride leader Derek of the Garnett Safari fame? LOL!

Thanks Phil, that would be great. My route will be mostly minimum maintenance roads, at least as many as I can find in one route.

CMA would like to provide a light breakfast Saturday morning. To help my turn around time between breakfast and getting ready to ride I think we will forgo biscuits and gravy this year. Also, over the last few years we have had orange juice but it goes virtually untouched. So, I think we will skip it as well.

We have discussed breakfast burrito's. I would pre-make them (sausage, eggs, potatoes, onions, cheese) and then have them wrapped in aluminum foil. They would be pretty easy to warm up in a roaster in the morning. Whatever isn't eaten will go right back in the cooler. We'll also have coffee, water and some fruit.

What I need is some feedback on the plan; how many burrito's a person may eat??
Most of all how many people will likely eat something??
Completing the survey would help us with planning numbers.

Thanks for your help.

Are we going to try and stay in a block of sites at Canning Creek?
If so, what site numbers are already reserved?  I wanted to get my reservation in, but did not want to end up on the opposite end of the camp ground.

07 KLR 30K and it's still going strong.
20 KLX 230 - The little green machine.

I’m looking at getting one of the group sites at canning creek. Most likely the small one. Would be nice if others help pay for it. This it is $80 per night.

Ok I just reserved the canning creek spot for up to 40 people and 16 vehicles. I know I’ll be in my RV in a spot. We have it from Friday the 13th to Sunday the 15th. Anyone that wants to bring a RV or tent can camp there. Again, would like some help with the cost of the spot. Cost me $160. Please let me know who would like to camp there so I have an idea.

September 14th is the 2019 stampede at Council Grove,Kansas. There will be a scenic, and a small bike routes. I have reserved the S-2 group campsite at Canning Creek, this has up to 16 stops with 40 people. I’d like to see if I could get the people that want to camp help pay for it, maybe $10 per night ?CMA and Mike Bright will be serving breakfast at the campsite. There are a couple of hotels in town also.  I plan on doing the small bike route for Saturday, it will be about 127 miles with a gas/ food stop in Cottonwood Falls.  Maybe Sunday morning will plan a ride to Box Turtle road,as I’ve never been there.
Hope to see you all there for our event.
Marc

Being a college student, scheduled events can be hard sometimes.

My hope is that I'll ride my Little Red Pig (CRF250L) down and camp/ride.

Is camping Friday and Saturday?
