The Stampede is almost upon us ....  here's a couple of key items.

a.) Unless indicated elsewhere, rendezvous points for all rides on Friday, Saturday, Sunday will be at the north end of Broadway in Cottonwood Falls, at the old bridge over the falls.

b.) On the Saturday main ride, we start at 9:00am with a rider meeting.

c.) All riders need to have a completed waiver, available here: http://www.backroadstouring.net/downloads/stampedewaiver_20.pdf

d.) Riders need to be familiar with ride protocols ... here's the one we've followed the past nineteen years. It has served us well: http://www.backroadstouring.org/kansas/safety.htm

e.) Truck/trailer parking. I wasn't able to get permission to use the high school parking lot, as it is considered private property. Options are the parking lots at Swope Park and Bates Grove Park located at the north end of the falls. If camping at Chase County State Lake, trailers are OK. If not camping, vehicles/trailers are not allowed if left unattended.

Let's Ride!

Flint Hills Stampede - Postponed .....

Looking at the weather forecasts, have decided to postpone the Stampede until Fall, 2020. With incoming Friday & Saturday storms, the minimum maintenance roads will become near impassable, and riders could be exposed to lightning when riding the ridge lines. Plus, there will be little to no shelter once away from the rendezvous point.

Am sorry to have to make this call ... but am hoping this is the better alternative to having someone injured due to poor weather/road conditions.

Best, Roger

Have rescheduled the Stampede to Sept. 18-20. All other details remain in place as far as rendezvous point in Cottonwood Falls, etc.

Hopefully, we'll get better weather than what we're getting this weekend.

Best, Roger

No need to register on this Stampede, no fees. Just bring yourself and a ride waiver: http://www.backroadstouring.net/downloads/stampedewaiver_20.pdf

Have had an e-mail exchange with a video production company. Following is the transcript. If you are interested in being in a promo video, you might give her a call.

How long is the course? What time does it start and what time are the first finishers expected back?

Hi, Cindy .... We gather for a ride meeting at the north end of Broadway in Cottonwood Falls @ 9:00 am. That's where the falls is located. There will be several patrols, broken by pace and distance, to the rider's choosing. Most rides will cover 120-160 miles of gravel and minimum maintenance roads.

Hope this info helps ....

Thanks for answering! I work for a video production company that does brand films for B&W trailer hitches that might be interested in a 6-minute film about the tour. Can you give me a contact name and number if I need more info or help coming up with a great "story" about one of the riders to follow? We're looking for how to add some drama, since it isn't a race but a tour... Thanks! Cindy Hoedel 913-940-6534

Backroads Touring - Kansas!
I'm not sure of the perspective you're suggesting. This is a motorcycle event, not horse. Many of our riders ride to the event.

Cindy Hoedel
Yes, we were looking for a motorcycle rider that might be an interesting subject for the story. I thought some people might trailer their bikes to the event. Motorbikes is a big segment for B&W but maybe those clients are more dirt bike riders...

OK .... let me run it through the Ride Committee and get their thoughts. You'd need a film crew with a 4-wheel capability, etc. to follow us once we start. We're off pavement every day of the event ...

The video production company, Scenic Road out of Chicago is very professional. They handle their own logistics and frequently shoot in challenging locations. The key is finding somebody who is a great "story" -- multifaceted person, preferably age 25-50, and there would have to be a trailer involved. Thanks for checking into it for me!

If you committed to lead in June, what are your plans for the September event? Please let me know if you're still a "GO", and what type of ride you're planning (scenic/intermediate/advanced). This info will help us figure patrol sizes.

Thanks!

Unless something goes disastrously wrong, I should still be able to lead a ride.

I have a loop to the south west laid out, still tweaking a bit. Moderate speeds (~45-50mph), possibly a bit of minimum maintenance but nothing too severe. Should be fine for anybody on a 700-1200cc machine, I'll be on my KTM 790.

Good! So far ... it's Jim Cummins : advanced, yourself with an intermediate/advanced, and me with a scenic.

Thanks!
