For those thinking of attending, here's a good reference site: https://chasecountychamber.org/lodging/

On a sidenote: The Symphony On The Prairie is the same weekend. Even though the event is being held near Alta Vista, KS ... 35 miles away from Cottonwood Falls, lodging reservations are already starting to fill (made mine today).

Nice looking shelter house with room for camping at the Lake,  I wonder how camping is handled there, if there is a camp host and fee or if it is just open to first come first serve? There must be a way to reserve the shelter house I'm sure.

the link below is google street view of the shelter house and you can spin it around too.

If I recall the last time I was @ Chase County State Lake and read the regs ... first come first serve.

Did a bit of looking and it looks like that camping may be first come first serve, but it does say that the Shelter is resevrable here:   https://ksoutdoors.com/KDWPT-Info/Locations/State-Fishing-Lakes/South-Central-Region/Chase

It looks like there would be plenty of camping (without hookups) around thePicnic Shelter, looks like a nice spot.

Type of Facility: Shelter
Location of Facility: N38 21 57.0 W096 35 36.6
This Facility is Reservable.

Have had feedback that finding lodging is becoming near impossible due to the Symphony on the Prairie being held the same weekend in Wabaunsee County. Am sorry to have not foreseen that last year when setting the Stampede date.

Anyone opposed to moving the dates to 6/19 to 6/21? Keep in mind that Sunday, 6/21 is Father's Day.

Heads up ....

Lodging was impossible to find June 12-14, so have moved the dates to June 19-21. The Symphony On The Prairie attendees have reserved most of the north-central Flint Hills lodging.

Best, Roger

Will be good to see you in the saddle again Roger and leading the brigade!

I could possibly secure a remote tent camping location 1 mile south of Strong City. It is an old Quarry, and has a rough entrance but lots of area for play and camping.

If any interest I can inquire.

Going to keep my eye on this. I'm new, but I am keenly interested in riding the flint hills. This seems like a great opportunity to meet some great people and see some beautiful country. Is there some info around on how I should prepare specifically for this ride?

Re: 2020 Flint Hills Stampede - Saturday Eve Meal?
« Reply #27 on: January 13, 2020, 09:42:20 AM »
Was giving thoughts to a Saturday evening meal. Two open-ended questions:

Venue ... The State Lake outside of CF, Swope Park in town, The backyard of the Mill Stream Motel along the river.

Meal .... a.) Checked with Camp Wood's Dining facilities for meal and venue. No go during regular Summer Camp. b.) checked with a Cottonwood Falls caterer listed in the Chamber Directory, but they are retiring in a month or two.

Just a SITREP for now. Any thoughts on the topic, feel free to weigh-in.

Best, Roger

There's no electricity or flush toilets out at the lake, so I'd suggest something in town unless the plan is to have a good ol' fashion cook-out.

Do you think the City would make an exception to the "no tents" rule at Swope park for something like this? They have RV spots, but apparently tents aren't allowed.
