Luggage Options?
« on: January 31, 2017, 07:58:49 AM »
I know this will be a very popular topic!

What do you guys use? I'm not a fan of hard panniers- I prefer soft bags myself. I currently use a set of Wolfman E12s, and they're big enough for the essential stuff- tubes, compressor, tools, some first aid, etc I'm looking for a top mount bag solution as well, just for some more room.

Wolfman E-12s

I'd like to add something like this Moose racing tail bag.

I personally love the Moose Racing bags but if you can find them you better grab since I believe they are discontinued and getting hard to find! They are phenomenal products with an internal structure to help them hold they're shape, they are also expandable to nearly double the height you see and come with rain covers! They also have a strap mounting system on top to add additional items like jacket liners or hydration packs for easy access.

The large front bag I use exclusively for my "tool box", spare tubes front and rear, air compressor, spare fasteners and zip ties etc... The rear one is the one you mentioned Derek and I use it mainly for extra hydration bottles and snacks and misc item I may pick up along the journey like the time I filled it with apple butter shortly before the beloved restaurant in Cottonwood Falls went out of business, she made THE BEST homemade apple butter!!

Moose also made a larger bag that basically was the two I use combined I think? There are tons of options out there though, too bad we can't get hands on most times to evaluate them! I actually first saw the Moose Racing tail bag you linked on the back of a couple bikes at a Stampede including Phil Denk's KLR so I looked them over and made an informed purchase..

I also find the Mosko Moto Reckless 40 and Reckless 80 systems pretty interesting! Great reviews on build quality and versatility...

I got this one, a 36 L from Oxford.

It doesn't have any internal bracing but that works pretty well since it can collapse down and keep things tight when it isn't full.
I thought it was a good idea that it converts to a backpack in case I have to walk out sometime.

Oxford is damn reasonably priced too! Never owned any but considered many times! I love their heated grips!

That Oxford bag is nice!! Especially for $49!  Hmm I may have to snag one of those!

Did yours have the red and blue logos on it? I'd prefer it to be all black or grey.. but I guess you can't be too picky for $50.

The color panels are switchable and they give several with it.  IIRC they give blue, red, green, white and black.
Edit:  I looked it up
5 color swatches; red, blue, silver, yellow & green included to customize/match with your motorcycle.
One of the features I really liked is that is has a detachable base plate.  I don't have a rack so it is nice I can just unzip the bag and take it with me.

I just ordered one of these last night. I had an amazon gift card, so I got this for $30!  I'll post up a review once I get it.

So I recieved the above tail pack the other day, and I'm really happy with it. TONS of room within it.. I was actually able to move everything that was in my E12s over to this thing, which now opens up the E12s for more stuff.

Fit and finish are really good, we'll see how it hold up over time, but for now I'm really happy with it.

I thought about getting that one.  I chose the Oxford because it was bigger but the Dowco would have probably been the better size for me.  I  don't have mine expanded and it still holds more than I need.  I can get my tool kit, two spare tubes, my first aid kit and my Slime air compressor in there with room to spare.  I think I could get a jacket liner in there if I expanded it.

I have the Oxford 40L on the back, really like it, can put a full face helmet in it, or my winter riding coat when I ride to work.
