New from Council Grove

Howdy all, I’m a 62-year old dirt bike noob with a CRF230L. The bike is  slow ( like me) but easy to pick up and maintain: air-cooled,  with  lock-nut valve adjustments.  I’ve owned about a half dozen street bikes over the years.
A year ago, I took the early retirement,  good health but no money plan, so I’m s-l-o-w-l-y acquiring riding gear. For now, I rely on  my old street helmet and a swelteringly hot First Gear jacket.

I’ve been venturing out into the Flint Hills now for about a year.

 But  looking forward to riding with others anywhere in Kansas.

I am a bad example for gearing up, boots, sturdy pair of pants helmet and goggles or glasses bout all I can handle.
That's a perfect bike IMO for tooling around the oil fields, min maint roads and such. Specially if it fits you and your comfortable on it.
Do you have a hauling method?

Thanks Roger!  Between the mud and loose gravel, I have a lot to learn about riding dual sports.  Yeah, great scenery around CG.  I try not to rubberneck too much cuz just over the next hill there's  often a  pile of loose rocks just waiting for me.  I plan to make it to the Roundup.

Hey asis, thanks!  I think this will be fun, even just trying to keep up on my little bike. As far as clothing, I need riding pants and even sooner than that,  a  mesh jacket.  Had an otherwise-enjoyable  long ride yesterday, but the sweat factor was a bummer.   I'm an old geezer with one of those "Well, a-helmet-saved-my-life" stories, so I always wear one.  But on a pavement run into town, it's usually just gloves and a helmet.

Hauling method. . . nope.  But slowly acquiring camping gear so I can take my bike longer distances.

If you're still gearing up, my #1 recommendation is a good pair of boots. It doesn't take much of a dab or fall to seriously injure an ankle!

    Good advice on the boots.  My old hiking boots are comfortable but way too short to prevent ankle trauma.

I have those 100$ boots from bilt. I love them. Have had many over the years and you can walk and shift gears in these. Sorta kinda water proofish, as much as any others. I have gone down many times in these. A great wearable boot!
