Dealing with Heat
« on: June 08, 2018, 08:43:45 PM »
Kansas will be in the 90s and 100s in the coming days. I love riding in the heat .... but if not prepared, it could hurt me!

Here are some things I do ....

1.) Hydrate frequently. Camelbak, water bottles. If your urine is getting darker, you're starting to enter the danger zone!
2.) No exposed flesh. Any skin exposed means rapid dehydration.
3.) Long johns, long sleeves. They slow dehydration and provide a cooling system through passing wind evaporation.
4.) Head is hot? Bandana (stylish, too). Soak it in water, tie it around your neck. The passing wind will clear the head and provide relief in no time.

Let's Ride! .... Roger  ;)

All excellent suggestions above. Another thing I do is to be sure I don't spend much time outside in the sun the day before a ride, be sure to get the yard work, mowing, whatever done a couple days before the ride. Staying inside out of the sun/heat and soaking up the AC, (and water) the day before, (or even a couple days before), makes a big difference as to how well you handle the heat, especially as you grow older.

Ride safe,
