Thanks Nick, we will get together and what dates work for us, and anyone else wants to come on the OAT. I can send anyone the tracks I have set up for the 32 parts of the OAT.

I am interested in the tracks.  Looking at running down to Bartlesville catching the OAT west and south to Guthrie/Edmond.  Probably in May.
07 KLR 30K and it's still going strong.

I'm looking at doing the OAT starting March 15th if weather cooperates.  If not going to do a Texas Hill Country Loop or a loop through Louisiana.

I don’t know if my route will help as it is from Wichita to Altus lake, then on the route to the salt flats, then back to Wichita. You can download the route from the ADRider website on the OaT thread.

Pixturethis and I are planning on 4th of July weekend 2020 in New Mexico for the New Mexico BDR!

We will have a 4x4 Jeep-ish vehicle with us as well - a buddy of mine from Nashville with a bad back can't ride, but wants to go! As such we'll have a chase truck with fuel, luggage, tools, food, and so on.

The specific dates/times to leave/return aren't quite set yet, but we are planning on a 9 day round trip.

So I'm super excited for this next year, and being a compulsive planner I'm already working on this.

Currently the plan is that Scott will be joining us in a Jeep, meaning we'll have some more room than just what we carry on our bikes. Sorry, household finance committee decided on a cruise, so no Jeep!

The current thinking is a 9 to 10 day trip with lodging every other or every third night, with camping in between.
Some camping may be primitive dry camping with no facilities available.
Group cooking means we'll need to figure out how we are going to deal with purchasing and transporting food for each day(s).
With a jeep along, we will have room to transport some (but not all) of our luggage in the vehicle, making the bikes lighter. This will probably work out to keeping your panniers on, but not needing to carry a pile of gear on top of the tail.

Conditions:
We'll be in New Mexico in July. Average temperatures are expected to be 91-94f, though we will spend most of our time at >4,000ft altitudes where it will be slightly cooler. It's still probably going to be pretty warm, so equip yourself appropriately. For those of us used to riding in the Midwest heat at 90f+, it should feel like any other summer ride.

You can take a look at weather averages here https://weatherspark.com/countries/US/NM

Typically most places in the mountains will have July highs in the high 80's to low 90's, and on the valley floors highs will be in the mid 90's.

This will be the rainy season for New Mexico. We should expect mud, and may need to go around muddy sections depending on the rain.

Recommended hot weather gear:
  • Cooling neck wrap
  • Wide brim hat
  • Mesh riding equipment
  • Moisture wicking clothes

Group Communications:
  • Sena Compatible

Each Rider will need/want:
  • GPS with Routes
  • Engine Oil
  • Rain Gear
  • Bike Specific Tools
  • Tire Patch Kit
  • Tent & Comfort (It may be hot, you might want a battery powered fan)
  • Bedroll & Pillow
  • Camp Chair
  • Personal Mess: Plate/bowl, Cup, Utensil, Cooking Provisions (stove, pan, etc)
  • Personal Hygene
  • Personal First Aid (Keep on bike)
  • Personal Emergency Water Filtration (Keep on bike)
  • Personal Emergency Rations (Keep on bike)
  • Any other personal emergency supplies - matches, knives, etc
  • Desired Lighting (camp lantern, etc. 100-200 lumen recommended)

The Group will need:
  • Emergency Rations
  • First Aid Kit
  • Emergency Water Filtration
  • General Tools
  • Air Pump
  • Chain Lube

We're setting dates. 7/3/2020 to 7/12 or 7/13/2020.

Will leave out of Dell City, TX in the morning on 7/4 with an expected 7 days on the route through 7/11, and 7/12 to get home. Discussion is to perhaps add a day on the end for buffer - losing time in rain or mud, etc.

I spoke with our possible Jeeper, it looks like his Household Finance Committee decided that they're going on an Alaska cruise instead, so he in all likelihood will not be able to come along. Looks like it will be just bikes!

I’m sure we will be fine. Maybe make a list of things to bring per bike. No reason for every bike to bring a tire pump, or no need for everyone to bring there own cooking items. But I think it will be ok to NOT share cloths !

Looks like we have dates set for the trip!

June 27th (Leave after work the 26th) through July 5th, with the 6th and 7th as "oh shit, we got stuck somewhere!" extra days on the end in case of rain, mud, mechanical, stopping to smell the roses, or checking out something cool.

That should be 6 vacation days if you have the 3rd off for the 4th of July holiday.

Dow and Phil are trailering from what Marc has told me, so I think the general plan would be to meet up at or near Dell City or Carlsbad on the 28th

I've attached a work in progress Google Earth file that has routes, campgrounds, some alternates, and ideas in it.

Right now what I have written down is to camp every night except June 29th I think it might be nice to get a room in Truth or Consequences - a nice hot shower and a bed in the middle of the trip; then on the last night - the 4th of July - there is a pretty neat looking lodge near the end of the trail - http://www.conejosranch.com/

I think it would be pretty awesome to sit out on the deck, have some cold beers, and relax after a long ride :)

Hey all - Just an update to say we are still planning on going, most of the stay at home and shutdowns should be easing off by the end of June, and we'll spend most of our time pretty far from people!

Still on for this ride. Starting June 27th meeting in dog canyon state park. Ending July 4-5th.  Here is some info on the route we plan to take

The plan is to meet in Dog canyon, TX on June 27th in the morning to leave in the route. Planning to camp  and hotel . If weather gets bad we might hotel it more.  The route is 1200 miles of NM off road riding. I believe about 1000miles is off road. We will finish in Antonito , CO hopefully on July 4th or 5th. Then head home.

We will leave Dog Canyon on June 27th on the route. Will be meeting another rider in Queen,NM getting gas/breakfast and on the route.
So far I have this.
Day 1  June 26 Wichita to Altus lake to camp.  263 miles 4.5 hr
Day 2 altus to Dog Canyon to camp. 468 mi.
Day 3 dog canyon to Ruidoso to hotel.
Day 4 Ruidoso to TorC to hotel.
Day 5 TorC to reserve, camp at Apache park 11mi north.
Day 6 reserve to Ramah. Nick and I have a Airbnb, everyone else will have to do what they want. This will be July 1st leaving July 2nd in the morning.
Day 7 Ramah to Cuba camp at terasa’s rv park
Day 8 Cuba to Antonito, CO. Staying at the narrow gauge railroad inn $60 in Antonio,CO
Day 9 headed back home.

Please remember everyone is responsible for there own lodging every night. I will post more as I work on the ride.
