WTD: Fat Pig Thumper
« on: February 04, 2018, 01:53:43 PM »
I'm interested in buying a dual sport.  Looking for something that is easy on the pocket book around 650cc.  Any one here have one for sale?  If so, let me know.  Thank you.

I'll have my KLR650 (692cc) up for sale 'soon'. I am waiting for the Yamaha Tenere 700 to come out.

692cc, exhaust cam advance, carb KLX jets, and a 14t front sprocket = RAWR!!!  8)

Oh, and also... bikemaster heated grips, all new rear spokes last winter, progressive front springs and new fork oil last winter, new cam chain during engine rebuilt, Doohicky installed, upgraded clutch springs, head refinishing and valve job when rebuilding engine, upgraded skid pan, rear master cylinder guard, hard rear trunk, soft rear panniers w/ guards, gel seat, 110W (i think? it's massive) upgraded headlamp, tall front windscreen, OEM length dogbones (I have some shorter ones, and a shortened kickstand, if a buyer was inseam challanged), rox 2" riser (might want to keep this), upgraded pegs with spiked platforms....

Have in the garage, but haven't installed, a set of metal bark busters; and another set of less fancy risers than the Rox that I'd include with the bike.

Typing this all out, I didn't realize I've done so much to her!

I still have my 05' KLR 650 for sale. Kinda waiting for the weather to start pushing it. I would make someone a good deal if only to pass it along. It is ride ready and tested and not a project by any means (unless a project is wanted in which case this is the perfect canidate), but it could still use some love.

Not anything very recent, other than pics from the rides that folks have posted; and I'm not sure about how much. I know it's an older model and cosmetically she has her share of bumps and bruises, but with the engine overhaul/mods/etc there's value in the upgrades. Maybe take a look at it at one of the rides?

It's going to be probably the end of this riding season before the new Tenere is out anyways, so it'll be a while before I can sell her.

Who else has (or knows of someone) a 650 thumper sitting in the shed not getting any use anymore.  Sitting around year after year waiting to get ridden.  It's time to sell it, move on.  LMK what's out there.   ;D

I have had an "it's for sale and no I'm keeping it" relationship with this bike. I bought it from a BMW freak here in KS who needed some quick cash. I knew nothing about it other than Tom's stuff is meticulously maintained and cared for. I got totally screwed on the price (I found out later) but my wife, my son and i have all three ridden this bike some (we all three have other bikes). I am just so in love with my DR it is like that movie quote. "This is my DR there are many like it but this one is mine." Anyway i let my son ride it and he loves it but he is 16 now, and this bike has a lot more power than you think and it will haul ass if you want to. Pretty docile if you want. Well a 16 year old only knows one speed! So he can't have it. He is on a 250 CRF. I kinda sorta have this deal with Pat (riding buddy from Garnett came to the stampede with me last year) and it goes like this. He has a barn full of bikes and his wife said he could have it if he sold his other adventure bike. I let him ride this when we go places and he has ridden it more than i have at this point. He said if it sells it wasn't meant to be if it doesn't he will take it upon sale of his bike. Which is code for don't hold your breath. LOL PAT!
My issue with this bike is this. It is a really nice looking bike. I ride and wreck quite a bit based on my riding style. My DR can take it but I don't want to screw this bike up. It is pretty, it is also pretty capable. Way better than a GS as Pat can attest. anyway If it sells well good, if it doesn't i will keep doing what I always do. My price is not negotiable, $3,800. I have several sets of tires and tubes for it, and i have the european to cig lighter plug made so you can charge your phone or whatever on it. I am always happy to answer questions if you are interested.
There is absolutely no excuse for what I am about to do.
