Recommendations for a friend?

A friend of mine at work has been eyeballing my bike and is interested in getting something.

He has two problems though.

1) He's really short - like a 28 inseam, maybe less.
2) He doesn't have a lot of money. I can help him fix something up though.

So, what model of bike can you guys think of that would work for somebody that's about 5'4" with short legs? He'd positively fall over trying to put just one foot down with the KLR, even with lowering links.

I didn't click the link but I'd look into an XT225.  Next on the list would be a DR200 or TW200.  Early 90's XR250L if you can find one in good shape, but they don't have e-start.

I went through this.  I went with the DR650 and did the lower suspension setting combined with a Seat Concepts low saddle.  That brings the seat down to 31.5".  It is possible to get it a little lower with a lowering link and sliding the fork tubes up in the triple clamps.

Found an XT225 on craigs list that "needs a new piston", but it's only $450. 'course that might end up being an ugly can of worms!

Is it all there and still together?  How does he know it just needs a piston?  I would be skeptical because how many of these low power, low compression bikes need a piston?  Not very many unless it's got 50k or so.  I would look for a clean one for around $1500.

I agree. XT225s dont make enough power to hurt themselves. Unless you run it out of oil, i dont think you could ever hurt it.

I would also reccomend looking at the XT225/250, DR200, super sherpa.. i think those are about as small as they come.
