2017 Stampede Dates
« on: May 16, 2017, 11:58:39 AM »
In the location thread we were discussing dates and what works. I'll put it to a poll.

I've excluded labor day weekend, and the weekend of the CMA Fastlane rally at Burlington so as to ensure opportunity for people to ride BOTH events, rather than choose just one.

I don't know that anybody is really stepping up to spearhead. I don't have time personally to take a front role on it, but there was some debate in the other thread, so I figured I'd put it to a poll.

There's really nothing to spearhead if we do the same as last year.  Just pick a date, location, meetup spot, and time.  It's up to us to make it there, up to us to figure out whether we camp, hotel, or drive home.

It would be so easy to just do it the same as last year.  September 16th, Council Grove, take off from the same cabin at the same time.

It would be so easy but you might want to take a head count on who would not come back to Council Grove.  I for one would not attend.
As for the date, all the dates would work for me so I voted for Tacos, I assumed that is why it was listed if you didn't care which date. As of 6/17/17, tacos have 4 votes.

My opinion is that it is Rogers stampede. So Roger, you pick the date and place, and those who want to go will, those who don't, won't. Easy peasy!!

That would be easy except Roger hasn't been assertive for quite some time. Sometimes you do just have to weigh in and pick a date. You will always have someone or some event that will conflict.

I thought the point of Roger stepping down was so that he could just enjoy the ride without the headaches of organizing it.

That being said, I agree with Harold that the core team/admin group select a date/place based on the polls and known conflicts/lodging constraints/auxiliary interests of the location and date. (It was unfortunate to read about an awesome ride set up at the same place/time as the Dirty Kanza.)

The pressure! Go by the majority vote. Pin the date, then Pin the location. I will be there in whatever capacity you want me!

Good morning,

We've ran two polls to get rider opinions. The poll for the location had 19 votes with 42% indicating they preferred Eureka for the site. The poll for the dates had 14 votes with 50% of the vote for September 15th / 16th.

So, IMHO the date and location have been set by vote. Eureka on September 15th and 16th.

Really, the big question now is WHO will take the point on this? Someone will need to contact the City of Eureka to see about the campground and Phillips Cabin? Someone should contact the motel in town to see what they might have going on. The owner is a Back Road rider and very friendly to the group so that will help.

I don't presume to speak for Roger, but I think he'd like to see a new generation of planners step up. I'm sure he'd offer insight and advice to whomever that might be. I'm buried with CMA activities. So, I'm not available to plan. I can say that CMA will provide water, Gatorade, coffee and so forth to support the event. In past years CMA has done a breakfast for the riders. At this time I'm not sure about that aspect. However, once we confirm an event I'll see what I can work out.

It will be up to someone else to secure the facility, secure ride leaders and organize the advertising of the event. I would recommend a team of three or four people to take care of the details. With a team approach no one person is overwhelmed with anything.

Who has the passion for this event?  :)

I always have the Stampede on my radar to attend.  I'm guessing there are about the same amount of people that can and cannot attend no matter where it is.  I would think the nice thing about doing it like last year is that no one has to do all the above.
I'll be honest, I don't have the time or desire to put in all the leg work needed.  For me, that takes it from a relaxing time just chillin' with friends, to more of a "stressful" time where you hope everything works out and flows right.  That's just my opinion though of course.    :)

Derek, that's great!

So, as I said earlier, I can bring a couple of 5-gallon jugs for water and gatorade for the riders to use. I'll also bring a coffee pot for the evenings/mornings.

The question is - can we get Phillips Cabin at the lake north of Eureka. You'll need to call the Eureka City hall and find out about it. If it's available for Friday and Saturday I'd say - grab it. You might also call the motel there in town and find out if he has anything going on OR if he has rooms available. I know there will be some who want rooms and some who want to camp.

So, where are you at? Is it possible for you to make the Beaumont Breakfast and ride on July 23rd??  I'm thinking that those interested in helping try to make the ride - if possible - and we can spend the day riding and talking through the details.
