Saturday June 10 we will be meeting at the Feed Lot Cafe in Blue Mound, Kansas for breakfast and a ride. Kick stands up at 9:00 am. We are planning some no maintenance roads if it drys out some, some very curvy and hilly black top roads and some gravel roads in very scenic areas in Northern Bourbon County, Linn County, Anderson County and Miami County. We will not have any pie or BBQ on this run unless we make our way to Miami County for some great BBQ, We Be Smokin is one of my favorites and will be on my short list for a lunch stop.
http://www.websmokin.com/ I used to have permission to take groups up on Guthrie's Mound just south of Mapleton. I will contact the family to make sure we can still access it. Around 1860, a young schoolteacher by the name of John Guthrie arrived in the area on a rental horse from Osawatomie. He was accused of horse stealing by a posse of pro-slavers. A kangaroo court met on top of the mound and they sentenced him to hang. Before dying he placed a curse upon his killers that each would die a violent death with their boots on, which they did.
This is one of the few rides where I can take a turn and lead because my built in GPS cannot get you lost in this part of the country. We will explore the areas around the Little Osage, Big Sugar and Marais Des Cygnes Rivers. If you have never been to a town that starts with an X, Xenia in northern Bourbon County is on the agenda.
