3-18-2017 East/Northeast of Wichita Ride

Well 5 of us gathered on this very brisk  44° morning and headed East for brunch in Beaumont Ks via mostly gravel backroads including Bois d'Arc. From there we did a slightly tamed county line road east of Beaumont towards Piedmont. From Piedmont we headed a meandering north to Reece Rd and into Reece Ks. From Reece 4 of us headed for Ivanpah Rd via a turnaround or two due to one private drive unbeknownst to me and one closed road for no apparent reason! Our fifth man headed back to Wichita and missed the beautiful sprawling valleys along Ivanpah Rd I'm sure for some important hot date or some other such nonsense!!! ( just kidding Duane!)

It turned out to be a beautiful day and a fantastic absolutely trouble free journey with 4 brand spanking new friends as none of us had ever met each other before the meet up, that's what this forum is all about, good times, good bikes, great friends and traveling companions in the beautiful backroads of this wonderful prairie filled state! Myself logged about 230 miles, Jon came to join us from Hutchinson so I'm sure he logged an extra 115 miles or so!!

Thanks for sharing the first ride of my 2017 riding season with me guys, it was great to meet each of you and share our tales and miles today!!!

It was a great route David, really enjoyed it, good job!  The unexpected little water crossings was a added bonus. It was great to meet everyone and really looking forward to the next meet up.

i wonder if all those trucks we saw in Rosalia had anything to do with that huge column of smoke we saw over that way.

I think that armada of trucks and hay in Rosalia were bound for western Kansas where the wildfires were a week or so ago!

Closed roads in the Flint Hills? Have encountered this on roads crossing open range land this time of the year. Ranchers will sometimes close roads during calving season .... don't want the mommas startled and stampeded when babies are halfway out the chute!
