Dual Sport Safari riders,
The weather has cleared and we're on like Donkey Kong. As of today we have 41 registered riders with more possibly on the way.
YES... we ARE still accepting late registrations if you know someone who wants to come. They can register online or wait until Friday night check-in or Saturday morning check-in. But when we go kickstands up at 8:30 Saturday, it will be too late!!
Here's a run-down of the latest info. If you have additional questions don't hesitate to call or text me at (785) 304-3870.
FRIDAY:
1) Sign-in begins at 6 p.m. at Maloans Restaurant in downtown Garnett. You'll get your wristbands, tshirts, breakfast tickets and sign waivers- and the chamber of commerce has some goody bags for you too. Eat dinner there if you want... they have great steaks and cocktails and a full menu. Some of the local riders will be there too if you have questions.
2) It is going to be WARM Saturday, so DRINK LOTS OF WATER today and Friday.
3) If you have not already made overnight plans, trailer campers can camp for free at the fairgounds... just pull to the west side of the parking lot along the grassy berm between the football stadium and the community building. Tent campers can camp along the grass by the chain link fence along the baseball field and north of the outfield. There will be no electricity at these locations but they are available if you want. They're also closer to the activities & showers than the other city camping areas that do have facilities.
4) Showers: We anticipate returning to the fairgrounds Saturday between 4 p.m-5 p.m. You will be able to shower at the Garnett Recreation Center (corner of Park Road and Lake Garnett road- old National Guars armory building you pass as you enter the park). Just show the guy at the desk your wrist band and he will take care of you. Hint: bring your own towel, soap and shower slippers. You can also shower at the fairgrounds restrooms at the north concession stands.
5) Breakfast tickets: When you check in you'll get a little yellow ticket that is your breakfast ticket. BE SURE to hold onto this ticket, because when you give the desk your ticket at breakfast it tells us how many meals to pay the VFW Post for- since they're doing breakfast for us.
6) Wrist bands: If you pre-registered before May 18 you'll have a different colored wrist band than those who registered after that date. These will be your ticket for your ride, dinner, showers, etc. Be sure to put it on at checkin and leave it on for the duration. We will divide up into trails groups/roads groups Saturday morning.
7) Water: As I mentioned above, it will be warm so drink up. We will have bottled water available for you for free at the fairgrounds to pack on your ride.
Lunch Saturday: We will be eating on the road Saturday
9) Saturday dinner: We'll start serving at 6 p.m. at the community building (it's air conditioned!) If you registered early we have reserved your steak. If you registered late, any extra steaks will be available first come, first-served, but we will be serving a pulled pork plate from the trailer on the fairgrounds. Don't worry- we will get you fed!! Extra steak dinners (if available) will be $15 for additional wives/kids/guests.
10) All your names will be automatically entered for door prizes, and we'll start drawings at dinner time Saturday. Music will run from 6:30-11-ish. Be sure to hang around and see if you won something!
11) There is talk of pick up rides on Sunday, but we have nothing formally organized. Talk to ride leaders and other riders if you want to ride on your own Sunday.
12: Sponsors: Our sponsors are LETCO Cycles, Beckman Motors in Garnett, Goppert State Savings Banks, and Elliott Insurance in Paola.
