2008 two friends and I went to Inuvik from eastern Nebraska.  8K miles in 3 weeks camped most of the way.  The highlight of the trip was the Dempster Highway, 467 miles of gravel/dirt/ruts/shale/mud.  We went about as far north as possible without a boat in June.

That must have been epic! My family is working on a trip to Alaska as well, I'm quite looking forward to it.

I've read that the Dempster is a destination unto itself, sounds awesome :)
