Missouri rider planning first flinthill ride
« on: October 02, 2018, 09:40:47 PM »
Planning a couple days riding in the flint hills.  We were planning to head north off of US 400 on gravel.   Any roads you could recommend as more scenic than others?    Hoping to maybe see  some of the sights and ride some of the fun scenic gravel.   This will be a group of three,  all riders are farm friendly and respectful to represent the adv riding community well.     Any help tracks or roads to avoid, closed roads that do not show on google or gps.  Major sights or points of interest.   This area is new to me but we had family who owned a large ranch and I spent some time up near Emporia  when I was a kid.    Also recommendations on affordable lodging would be helpful.   Thanks for any help as it is truly appreciated,   SN

I recommend staying at the Blue Stem Motel in Eureka.  The owner support dual sport riding and had led many rides for the Flint Hills Stampede.  If you send me an email to ajayhawkfan at yahoo dot com I have a couple routes based out of Eureka, one going north and another south.

I don't so you mentioned any dates?
If you plan on coming North of Teeterville, West of Madison to Cottonwood Falls, Emporia, Council Grove...I might hook up with you for a leg.

This weekend is not looking good for weather.

I don't have any treks to offer as I am still waiting on my USB implant ;) But I do know the area well.

We were planning our trip for this weekend, looks like it might be a scrubed mission due to weather.  I hate that but with the rain and cold it seems like a less than ideal trip.   Thanks to all for the help.  I will use the motel listed when we go.    May end up being spring before i get the chance again.  SN

Look st our flinthills adventure route on the Facebook page. Look under the files tab. Should be the top one. It will have great roads from Oklahoma to Nebraska all through the flint hills. I is called FHADV.gpx.
Enjoy your trip, great place to ride.

We are planning to have a 2 day ride starting March 16th that is just shy of 400 miles round trip.  The ride is called the 39th Parallel.  I generated a post that had additional details.

Thanks,

Chris
