Last year, I went to
Adventure Palooza with my dad and Mike Q absolute BLAST!
They used an app called Goosechase for the event, and the idea was that each team or small group of riders would navigate to the objectives on their own; then everybody ends up at the event HQ for dinner and spirited stories about the day.
I don't want to replicate their event (because honestly, I don't have the time), and the Goosechase app is expensive ($500 to host one game!).
However, I really thought the format of navigating to objectives and 'doing stuff' then meeting up at the end of the day could be something we do for a ride. I had referenced this as the "Roundup" in a post a while back - since we'd have to
Round Up all the POIs!
I've been working on it here and there in some spare time, but I thought I'd ask everybody what their thoughts are before I put too many more hours in to it; I did find a similar (free as long as we're not charging an entry fee in our event) app called ActionBound.
How it works is that the Bound has stages, which can be done (or not done) in any order. Each stage and task has a point value. At the end of the day, the team with the most points wins!
Check out the
sample bound I put together, or scan the attached QR code to launch it on your phone.
Is this something you'd be interested in as an event format?
