Dodge City Ride
« on: October 31, 2021, 08:05:50 PM »
I had to go to Dodge City in early October for a couple days of work-related classes. I had only been through there once before and it was night so I didn’t get to see anything. I did a little research and found a few places I thought would be interesting to go see. I took my 450L and spent the Saturday after my classes riding around.

Early Saturday morning, I checked out and started my ride.

I was too early for the museums so I had to settle for outside pics.

This is the Arkansas River. It’s interesting to me being from the Tulsa area, where the Arkansas River is over a quarter mile wide and has water in it.

At the Dodge City airport. My grandsons like airplanes so I sent them this selfie.

A plane and three geese.

Cattle feedlots.

The abandoned veteran’s hospital at Fort Dodge.

Coronado’s Cross. Coronado, the Spanish explorer held a Thanksgiving mass here in 1541. The first Christian service west of the Mississippi.

I don’t see a lot of cotton fields around here. I picked a ball for my wife.

Looking for an abandoned iron bridge. This is a welcome sign in my book.

And an abandoned railroad bridge going into Ford.

The old railroad depot at Bucklin.

Fromme-Birney round barn outside of Mullinville, built in 1912. It was wide open so I gave myself a private tour.

Wind turbines. I got chewed out by a little old lady for being on private property. I was about ten feet off the road.

Metal art at Mullinville. The artwork extended for well over a quarter mile.

Sandy roads along the Arkansas River. I probably rode 10+ miles of this and didn’t see a soul. This is my kind of riding.

Did you know that Kinsley is the midpoint of the USA? I didn’t either.

This locomotive and old church were at Kinsley too.

Abandoned grain elevators at Ardell. I wish I would’ve had more time. I would’ve gone in.

The cemetery, crucifixion statue, and this beautiful church at Windhorst.  Once again, I gave myself a private tour.

And lastly before returning to Dodge City, a couple old locomotives at a grain elevator in Offerle.

The ride ended up being 175 miles and a lot of fun.

On the way home, I passed through the Gypsum Hills.

Thanks for sharing, looks like a lot of really nice stuff in the area. I haven't spent much time in Dodge City myself, would be fun to check out some time. Maybe I can find a 250 to go ride some sand with Marc :D
