Old guy new to the region
« on: September 07, 2020, 04:18:00 PM »
I just moved to KC last year. I am 65 years old in good shape and would like to explore the backroads and sites of Missouri and Kansas. Just found this great site. If I may ask, how can we join a group with the same demographics and interests? If this works, I will buy a small adventure bike and participate. Thanks to all
Used to ride a KLR but it may be too heavy for day trips.

IMO the KLR is a great bike to discover the area, we are not in CO, there is nothing that technical around here. The only time would be when it has rained and you want to hit some pure dirt roads.

There will be a riding opportunity coming up SW of Kansas City, it was originally planned for the weekend of the 19th, but because of the Stampede, we are considering rescheduling it but we have not come up with any dates yet.

Lots of great bikes. KLR 650 or DR 650 are nice choices! There's a KLX250 and a WR250 on the classifieds for sale too - nice and light, easy to pick up.

Will go and check the WR 250 Yamaha and Suzuki DR 400 on the weekend, the same price but new and under warranty. Being severely mechanically challenged and without a real garage, I do not want to get involved in a great  but older bike.
Still have a soft spot for the KTM but probably an overkill.

I hear nothing but great things about both the WR250 and DR400! Good choices.
