I saw in the paper not long ago, that the older gentleman who showed some of us how to split limestone rock, with a feather and wedge, had passed away. This was on a ride I lead in the Post Rock area North of Sylvan Grove. The place is called the Vonada Farm and Stone Company. I hope the family will keep the business open. One thing that made it unique was the way they machined some of the rock. They had purchased old machines from a machine shop that closed and moved them to their building. Most of the machines were powered by an old line shaft with flat belts. They would machine the rock like steel or cast iron.
