Tire Irons
« on: January 23, 2019, 12:36:10 AM »
I purchased Motion Pro tire irons to carry along just in case that i or someone else needs to use them.   The tire irons fit inside my saddle bags but not quite the way that I would like them.  The tire irons are approx. 16" long.  How do you carry your tire irons? Ive seen other use PVC pipe .  What other suggestion would you have and do you have photos of your set up?

Thanks

Chris

16" is a lot.  I have the 11 1/2" Motion Pro levers

When I had a KLR250, I packed them in a piece of 1" pvc pipe.  I have a welding rod case for a tool tube on my DR650 and they fit inside it easily.  Still couldn't fit a 16" iron though.

My tire irons are not quite as long but I bought a manual canister (12 x 3-1/4) from Agri Supply then built a bracket out of 3/16 stainless steel, it works quite well.  I have read several interesting websites that had the plans for building your own out of pvc, it could be modified to make it any length you needed though.

This is the Website for the Manual Canisters  https://www.agrisupply.com/manual-canister-large/p/80881/

Yeah 16" is overkill. 11" will work. I really like the combo irons, like what benton has.  I have a beat up set up basic 11"ers that I carry basically for other folks to borrow. I run tubliss at both ends so my flat kit looks a little different.

Don't forget a decent bead breaker with those levers.  That bead breaking always seems to be the REAL pain in the patootie when changing a flat.

Harbor Freight sells a welding rod container, it's plastic and I think can hold your tire irons as is. About $5 cost and a couple hose clamps, mine's been on for 3 years now and 5 trips to Mexico without issue. I'm not sure if I know how to post pics here but could send you one by text. Good luck.
