My new ride.

Well after parting with my beloved 990 Adventure (take good care of her Derek) I was going to wait and see what new bikes would be released this winter before getting a replacement. But in the back of my mind I knew what I really wanted and when I found a smoking good deal on a 2017 Africa Twin DCT I jumped.

I finally got to put some miles on her today and it was all smiles. I can put the balls of both feet down at the same time, something I could never do on the KTM. All of the controls just fall into place for me and the DCT is just plain awesome, believe the hype it's true. Now it is time to start ordering the "necessories" as my wife likes to call them and get it ready for that month long trip to the Western US that I have always wanted to take.

Damn Glen, CONGRATULATIONS and welcome to the Africa Twin DCT family!!! I must say you made an amazing choice and I can't  wait to get out and ride with you on it and I can't wait to hear your more detailed analysis of the bike! My word for the DCT is "Magical" and I'm sure you already agree.......

Whoa!! Congrats Glen!! That's a helluva scoot!! Don't worry, the ol 990 and I are getting to be fast friends!  I still haven't ridden a DCT yet, but if they're even remotely similar to a rekluse, I can totally get it. Have fun on that thing!! We need to go out and kick up some dust, now that it's cooling off some.

I have to apologize! I stumbled in on a intimate encounter between Glenn and his new fair maiden. She was undressed and I was a bit embarrassed but at the same time impressed and could not take my eyes off her!

 My flight instructor always started off with "Keep living the Dream" . Hope you make em all happen Glenn.

I just found and signed up for the new board. I have been thinking about an AFT since they were released. Would really like to hear you feedback on the DCT? I still love the Cagiva Gran Canyon but it might be about time to get a replacement for a big bike.

I think that I have finally completed the build of my Africa Twin.

This summer it has taken me on a 3 week trip to the Yukon and Alaska in June covering 5400 miles.
In August I rode out to Colorado thru the Poudre Canyon.

I explored the Northern side of Dinosaur National Mon. and made it to the Gates of Lodore, this is where the Green river enters DNM and joins up with the Yampa river.

Then into Idaho and visited EBR-1 the first Nuclear Power Plant used to produce electricity.

I stopped at the city park in Arco, Idaho to see the sail of a nuclear submarine.

I worked my way north along the Salmon river and crossed into Montana over the Lemhi Pass. This is the spot that Lewis and Clark technically left the then United States and entered land belonging to England on their way to the Pacific Ocean.

Just below the summit of Lemhi Pass on the Eastern side is a spring that flows up thru the ground and emerges from under a big rock. L & C determined that is the actual source of the Missouri River. So in the following picture I am actually standing on both sides of the mighty Mo.

Next I worked my way across Montana and crossed back into Wyoming over the Bear Tooth Pass. I have ridden the road several times but it always leaves me in awe.

In total put was able to put almost 10000 miles on my Africa Twin this summer with not a single issue. I still think the DCT is the greatest thing since sliced bread and don't think I would ever choose the manual over it. I figure on the Alaska trip that it saved me probably 500 to 1000 shifts a day that I would have had to do myself, so for the trip say 15 to 20 thousand shifts.
Hopefully the weather will hold for a few more weeks, I would still like to run out the New Mexico and Arizona for a few days this month.
