Anderson, Linn and Bourbon County Ride
« on: February 12, 2018, 11:26:29 AM »
So Dane, new rider and I think member of this site is the Grand Potentate of our local Lion's Club, he and I are tossing the idea around of hosting a ride in Anderson, Linn, and Bourbon county. We are looking for idea's and ride leaders in these area's that would be willing to help. I posted looking for other Lion's Club members on here and heard nothing back. So I am assuming not many. However, we are thinking of hosting the event in Garnett at the north lake, (plenty of camping) having either the scavenger hunt or ride leader format. Probably ride leader for the first one anyway. We have a lot of actual trails here, some quite challenging, and lots of canopy roads in Linn county and fun stuff to explore, end the day with a large bbq at the CCC football stadium in Garnett with a beer garden and some local bands playing. Obviously our first goal is to have a good time, but we would like to create an event as a fund raiser for the Lion's Club. We are thinking early in June or so, to not compete with other rides, and before the real heat sets in... anybody be interested in this? I know Nick posted a similar idea and we would maybe love to work with him if we are not stepping on him and he is willing, our local Lions Club is an older group that is just now getting new membership (myself included) and they are hard working guys and would do all the hard work and help everyone have a good time... Just trying to support our riding habit, with friends while raising money for the Lion's club, oh ya and we love to play music also. We would love to hear from you...   Ideas, or comments

I know Linn and Anderson pretty well but maybe miami county as a third option I have access to Trails on private land for advanced riders but no big bikes, uess you don't mind laying it down! A lot.  And if you like tree canopy roads Linn county is good for that! Plenty of great roads in Anderson and Linn county for a group ride!!!
I don't necessarily agree that bourbon county sucks. It is not as good as Anderson and Linn maybe landscape wise, but still it's got something worth seeing. Surely somebody knows bourbon county well enough...

Question for you I don't know how to make a poll on here. I have enough trails secured to do 90% of the ride on trails. Would you prefer to ride a shorter distance on mostly private trails, or longer distance on county, and minimum maintenance roads? Trails would be divided up by skill levels obviously. What would make you want to attend more... Trails or roads, both have scenery.

I really enjoy getting on to trails and minimum maintenance, though I would prefer to avoid "miles 'o mud" as much as anybody else.

Another Anderson County rider out of Kincaid.  I would prefer riding minimum maintenance roads since my KLR is the main stay bike.
The trails around here are definitely for smaller bikes.

I've taken my KLR on plenty of those kinds of trails :D

Was it wise? Questionable. Was it fun? ABSOLUTELY!  8)
