Introduce Yourself / Hello from Liberal
« Last post by Robert_C on July 27, 2022, 03:23:41 PM »
Hello, as I am sure that all of you can guess, I'm Robert.

I have been living in Liberal for about eight years. I spend quite a bit of time near Ft. Leonard Wood in MO, in fact, I rode out here twice this summer. In the past, I spent a lot of time in and near Salt Lake UT. Before that, I lived in California, but not the parts you see on TV. once I was about 16 I was in the part of the state north of Redding. That area is extremely rural, much more so than Liberal.

I started out in Southern California in the moped boom of the late 70s. From there I moved north and passed through a couple of Hondas. My first "real" motorcycle was a Honda CL90 Scrambler.

Jumping forward a lot of years to my last "cruiser" as Yamaha V-Star. I still remember that bike as the bike that taught me why I don't like cruisers. I got rid of it and a BMW f650cs, the belt drive one, entered the stable.

My wife recently decided that she was very unhappy about me riding a twenty-year-old motorcycle. I had to get some clarification on that one, "let me get this straight, are you telling me to buy a new motorcycle?"

With that, my current Moto Guzzi V7 found a home.

As far as me, I am a teacher. I had been out of the country for several years and didn't want to return to the job market that I remember from Northern CA/Southern OR, so I made sure I had a job before coming back, and this is where it was. I teach computer applications, personal finance, and robotics. I also spend time target shooting and blinding scale models.

That pretty much covers the personal Bio.

Hi All.

General Discussion / Opportunity to meet and visit with a Dakar finisher?
« Last post by gagnaou on July 27, 2022, 11:35:34 AM »
Hey guys, trying to gauge what would be the interest of you coming to a location within an hours of Kansas city where you would be able to camp, eat, rub shoulder with and listen to Top 10 Dakar finisher Mason Klein.
There may also be the possibility of you getting your hands dirty in trying to do a small navigation loop. Let me know if you would be interested so that we can see if Mason can make the time to come and see us in KS.

Note, this would be the weekend of the 27th of August

The Grand Adventure / MABDR
« Last post by wadedawg on June 09, 2022, 03:12:43 PM »
I was planning on riding IDBDR with a friend but above normal snowfall has us wondering if it will be open to ride the entire route.  So as a back-up plan My wife and I are tossing the idea around of riding the MABDR.  Plan is to leave @July 1 and return @July 14 trailering bikes out and back.  Camping as much as possible.  Slow but steady pace.  If you are not familiar with the BDR routes, this one is considered the easiest of them all with a good mix of gravel, tarmac, and creek crossings.  If anyone is interested in riding Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and touch New York.... give me a shout.

Bike's checked over, fluids topped off and I'm already packed. Even though tomorrow will be all slab to get near the Friday ride start I can't wait to hit the road in the morning! Been a hard couple of years since I've been on a decent ride.

Day 2 212 miles. Wellington to Garnett, After we get to Garnet, everyone can either camp or find a place to stay. I’ll be headed home on Sunday morning.

drJack,
Most ride leaders don't post gpx files before the ride.
